~ Introducing ~

Our CSA with “Learn & Earn” Practice Sessions

Once you have your Learn & Earn badge for participating, you may want to add other badges to your basket on the path to self mastery, as you awaken your Inner Earth Adept! Our trademarked SHIRE certification (Systems Holarchy: Integral Relations and Environment) takes you on an exciting 12 month journey as part of our global educational network, offering the chance to earn badges for each of our educational modules in 12 areas converging around permaculture, earth-based systems, universal systems, holistic land cultivation, self growth, and natural healing. Use your certification to demonstrate your unique leadership in our changing world and to share the wisdom and essential love for the benefit of all. Learn more about SHIRE and join the fun!

COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE WITH HANDS-ON educational Practice

Yes, you can receive a Bounty Box of goodies, but you also get the opportunity to get your hands in the soil throughout the season. We call it ‘Learn & Earn’. Meaning as part of your membership we prioritize you selecting a few days to come to the farm and join our volunteers to get your hands in the soil on our plant care or other farm projects. Volunteering while learning step by step grows awareness and community connection.

These “practice sessions” are offered twice a month. This time is special— meaning it’s your chance to get away from the computer and come on out to the farm for some much needed “nature connection time”. Just you and a few others led by our plant experts or garden leads. We hope you’ll come away feeling engaged and fulfilled, wanting to continue the good vibes in your own backyard.

Practice content is geared toward those who show up each session. While you may just jump in with our other volunteers, we may also have time to meet your experience and questions, from beginner to expert. Separately, if you have an applicable skill, resource, or experience you’d like to share, wed love to hear it and perhaps feature it for your group, if applicable.

Please contact us with your questions and we’ll see you in the garden!

Please let us know your preferences or aversions for certain foods, as well as any dietary specifications, allergies, or other health requirements.

We Help You Put Ideals Into Action

What if I can be one step more connected to MY food production + MY community this season?

What IF i learn growing practices that I can employ at home? what changes can I make to prioritize this? How does doing so balance My lifestyle?

What IF I can learn to use the benefits of the foods and other plants I learn to grow to actually up-level My lifestyle? Which ones do I gravitate toward?

What IF I can suspend THE THINKING MIND RUNNING THROUGH ‘WHAT MIGHT NOT WORK’, OR A BUSY SCHEDULE, and OPEN A NEW DOOR TO see what my participation gifts me + THOSE I LOVE?

Do You “CSA”?

We consider your active participation to be your expression of sovereignty at this crucial choice-point for society, a choice to step more into learning, practice, and community while embracing your unique options for engaging with the natural world. Nature calls us each uniquely— which learnings or practices do you feel are calling you now?

TOPICS + DATES

MAY 11th: Session 1

*starts on the second Sat of May, after the typical ‘last frost’ for CO

GETTING STARTED WITH SOIL, SEEDS + WATER

Familiarize yourself with your local soil — identify it’s properties and options for creating healthy soil structure, supporting micronutrient balance, and building mycorrhizae networks. What is immediately useful or needs simple amending? What requires more involvement? With helpful guidance and reflection, you will consider your goals, efforts, and investments for the season in terms of time, space, energy, and attention. Do a little research to choose the best seed varieties for your purpose or preferences. Review recommended options for irrigation, from passive to active that suit your land and goals. Next we’ll look at planting, and what will support your seeds or starts best. Make note of how to schedule your growing cycles, and identify a good time and strategy for planting your veggies, herbs, and horticultural plants. You’ll have access to suggested seed varieties, heirlooms, and native plant lists, as well as local seed swaps or suppliers.

JUNE 1st: Session 2

OBSERVATION OF ELEMENTS | TRANSFORMATION | SOLUTIONS FOR BALANCE

Observe more closely how the elements of Earth, Water, Fire (Heat/Sun), and Air are working together, and where they are out of balance. Notice the signs, and look at various options for responding. Learn troubleshooting tips where needed, and what to prioritize based on your short term and long term goals.

The element of ‘transformation’ includes looking at efficient options for composting, recycling, use of cover crops, mushrooms for filtration, and other natural processes that work on transforming your land.  We’ll look at what we consider helpful versus harmful elements such as pollinators, helpful insects or animals, pests, or disease, and guide you in identifying potential solutions where appropriate.

JULY 6th: Session 3

INTRO TO PRINCIPLES OF PERMACULTURE + REGENERATIVE GROWING TECHNIQES

Now that things have been set in motion, it’s time to take a birds eye view. Here you’ll dive into the philosophy and practical tools of implementing a "whole systems approach" to working with the land. Observe the benefit of your bioregional diversity and notice what can bring balance or restore the elements of your eco-system. We will ask key questions for the purpose of solving observed issues. We will be introduced to the underlying patterns inherent in nature’s elemental cycles and use this wisdom as a reflective tool to listen, observe, and act — to creatively respond to issues with your soil, land, or production more efficiently. Notice how there may be multiple steps or approaches to introducing balance in any project rather than relying on an isolated or immediate prescriptive approach. Actualize a new understanding and unshakable respect for the power and healing inherent in natural processes. A greater understanding and ‘active conversation’ with nature can lead to welcome humility, gratitude, and health — as we begin to know with our bodies as well as our minds, just how interrelated our systems are.

AUG 3rd: Session 4

INTRO TO REGENERATIVE DESIGN | PERSONALIZED Q + A

For those who want more in-depth strategy on how to plan long term or what to build or cultivate with their own land. What makes a design for the land regenerative? What are the values that define the many ways in which this practice can be used? How is ‘honoring the spirit of place’ important? We’ll look at your unique goals, methods, choices, and solutions— and draw from other examples for reference. Here’s where the discussion can bring up questions or ideas related to structures, methods, and implementation, even among different bioregions, if applicable. We’ll look at local experiments, from the simplest strategies for row crops or raised beds, to geodesic domes, hot houses, hydroponics, green roofs and more. Use of local resources is highlighted. Additional Q&A based on interest. You might be asking yourself what is needed to bring your existing spaces to life or how to introduce structures to solve elemental issues.

SEPT 7th: Session 5

HARVESTING, COMPOSTING, COVER CROPS

How are different plants best cyclically harvested, some for continued growth, some for use as mulch (chop + drop)? What kind of composting materials and practices are most useful for Colorado, or for your microclimate? How to layer carbon and nitrogen for proper heat and aeration when building a compost pile. How are seeds or roots best kept? We’ll compare historical and local considerations and methods. Potential Field Trip: We might make a specialty jam or other storage practice at a neighboring farm (if available).

Take home flowers and/or veggies for your yard!

Top 10 Reasons To Send Your Kids To Farm Camp

Here at Geoflower, we’re pretty fond of farm camp, but maybe you need a little bit more info about why farm camp is a fun, educational, AWESOME experience for your children! Here are our Top 10 reasons you might consider signing your kids up to learn about nature, soak up the fresh air, and learn about where their food comes from…

1. It’s good ORGANIC fun and playtime (with a healthy dose of soil)

It is not an uncommon site to see Geoflower campers using soil, water, and blackberry juice as paint media.

2. Kids will become more comfortable and appreciative of the outdoors

Even in the span of a single week, we see great changes in many of our summer campers’ comfort in the outdoors. We spend 100% of camp time outside, challenging kids to engage with the outdoors in new ways. Whether we’re watching worms turn food scraps into compost or listening to woodpeckers search out an afternoon snack, kids learn to appreciate the many roles that each element of nature plays.

3. Being on the farm just might change their minds about vegetables

Studies show that when children are directly involved with food production (planting, watering, tending to the crops, and harvesting), they are more likely to try and enjoy their vegetables. When our campers learn where their food comes from, they are able to make the connections back to meals enjoyed at home or at school. It is fun to discover foods we recognize in different places, especially in the soil!

4. Our campers become fast friends

No two days at Geoflower summer camp are alike: there are always opportunities for campers to learn something new and share their strengths with their peers. From creating a 5-star fairy house to playing capture the flag, Geoflower campers have made lasting friendships here on the farm as they share in the one thing they are guaranteed to have in common – playing!

5. The farm is a screen-free zone

Once upon a time, playing outside was every kid’s M.O. Lately, kids are spending more time in front of screens, and it’s wreaking havoc on their attention spans, social skills, and physical health. Our farm affords children sensory stimulation, opportunities for creativity and risk-taking, healthy social interaction, a physically active environment and, most importantly, a delightful taste of what the great outdoors has to offer.

6. A small group setting encourages learning and sharing and kids learn to work together

Geoflower summer campers spend the entire week in a small group with multiple instructors. This structure allows our staff and volunteers to build relationships with individual campers and for our campers to become familiar with each other. Supervisors read the group’s dynamic each day to decide which activities will help the group learn and thrive together, while honoring individual needs.

7. Kids can use their imaginations

Geoflower camp facilitates inquiry- and play-based learning. This means we help kids exercise their natural curiosity through games, stories, and other fun activities. You might hear a loud roar as a group embarks on an adventure, imagining what our land was like when dinosaurs roamed. Campers make up stories to describe the animal that left the tracks and scat spotted along the trail, where was that coyote going? Was it looking for something? Did it find it? Campers even get journals to use throughout the day to draw maps, make a picture of what their future farm will look like, write a letter to a local wildlife animal, etc.

8. Geoflower is a real farm

Geoflower is not a theme park experience. We are a real regenerative farm growing people, food, and experiences. Summer campers meet real regenerative growers, see plant and eco-system care up close and in action, and can be a part of where their food comes from. It’s an authentic experience they will remember forever.

9. There’s no place like Geoflower

With the Foothills as a stunning backdrop, Geoflower’s property is one-of-a-kind. Adjacent to North Boulder, our 5 acres of native and agricultural land is home to a population of local birds, honeybees, pollinators, and native plants (many of which we grow in our Native Plant Nursery). Kids may also enjoy husky puppy time! Our 1-acre Kids’ Farm and Living Playground are currently being developed for and inspired by kids. Kids love it here.

10. A Farmer’s Market with kid-harvested goodies

At the end of every weekly summer camp session, campers can invite their friends and family to Geoflower’s very own FREE Farmer’s Market! Browse our booth and leave with some kid-harvested goodies or local honey to enjoy after the week is through.

Special bonus: You may find our official Summer Camp Farm Stand stocked with fresh, seasonal produce and/or perennials at the end of your camper’s week! Cash, check, or venmo is accepted.
